Tips For A Safe Camping Trip

Even though I like to go camping, there are always things to keep in mind.

Right off the bat; don't forget to pack insect repellent. Mosquitoes can be quite annoying and deprive you of a good night sleep.

Ensure buying a repellent that has 20 to 50% deet in it, wear protective clothing and it wouldn't hurt to treat your apparel as well.

It is also wise to bring a first aid kit. Ending up with a cut or scrape is the least that can happen and it is essential to clean it well and protect it with a bandage. In case you are on medications, ensure to bring enough to cover a few extra days, because you never know what situation you might end up in.

Another tip you may want to consider is locating a doctor, hospital, or pharmacy near or close to your campsite. Animal bites, and snakes in particular, are quite common. Knowing where to go when you need medical care could save valuable time and hence your life.

Do NOT drink water out of creeks, lakes, ponds, or rivers! Don't even use it to wash your face with it. The water can be contaminated with Giardia which will cause severe diarrhea and can lead to dehydration. You can eliminate this threat by boiling the water for at least 1-10 minutes.

These are just a few, but essential tips. They will make your camping trip safe, so you can enjoy it to the fullest!
